FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Very! We pride ourselves in the experience we create and the customizable options we provide for our couples. While maintaining the overall structure and integrity of a semi-custom design, our couples are not restricted to a selection of paper and colors to choose from. We love working with our couples to select the details and embellishments that will best complete their aesthetic and vision. We work with couples to select the perfect envelope liner and wax seal, for example, or illustrate their venue to use throughout the suite.

  • We LOVE working with handmade paper, cotton cardstock, and vellum. But feel free to inquire if you have other paper/mediums in mind. We are happy to discuss options; for example, blind deboss or foil on velvet!

  • We offer letterpress, blind emboss/deboss, foil and digital printing. We enjoy working with our couples to choose the best print method for their wedding aesthetic as well as allocated budget.

    DIGITAL
Digital printing combines different percentages of cyan, magenta, yellow and black (cmyk) ink to deliver a digitally based image onto paper. The ink lays flat on the paper, and cost is not affected by number of colors used. Most commercial printers use this method.

    LETTERPRESS
Letterpress originated in the early 1400s; once the main form of printing, it is now revered for its vintage elegance and timeless beauty. This printing process uses an antique press to transfer a design from an inked plate (raised surface) to a sheet of paper using pressure to create a deep pillowy impression. Each new design requires a separate press plate, which accounts for the initial cost of letterpress. Additionally, once a plate is made, edits are not possible. Any changes to the design would require the making of a new plate.

    BLIND DEBOSS/EMBOSS
Blind letterpress or deboss is letterpress printing without the ink. The raised plated surface presses into the paper, pushing the design below the paper’s surface. Emboss is just the opposite. Plates are used to raise the design from the surface of the paper. It’s the play of light and shadow across the textured surface that reveals the design.

    FOIL STAMPING
Simliar to letterpress, this specialty printing process requires pressure and a custom plate. Alternatively, ink is not used, and the plate is generally made from copper. Metallic foil is transferred to the paper (in the form of the plated design) using heat. We love to work with gorgeous foils such as gold, rose gold, copper, antique copper and silver.

  • We recommend determining the quantity needed (based on addresses being sent to, not individuals invited) and then adding 15-20% extra to account for last minute additions, lost mail and keepsakes. Once your design is approved and moves into the printing and production phase, quantities cannot be adjusted, and reprints are costly.

If, for example, you are planning to send 100 invitation suites, we would recommend ordering 15-20 extra for a total between 115 and 120.

  • Most couples book 6-12 months in advance, even sooner if wanting to get Save the Dates out a year early for a destination wedding. All that said, it is never too early to inquire and reserve your date! So we are able to give each of our couples the full Number B Design Co experience, we have a limited number of openings each month. I recommend getting in touch with us regarding questions or submitting an inquiry as soon as you determine you are interested in working together. To avoid any rush fees, we advise reserving 3-4 months to design and produce your invitation suites.

    TIMELINES TO KEEP IN MIND:
We recommend mailing Save the Dates to guests 6-8 months prior for local weddings and 8-12 months prior for destination weddings.

For mailing wedding invitations, the industry standard is generally 2 months. However, we recommend mailing invitations 3 months prior for local weddings and 4 months prior for destination weddings. If not planning to send Save the Dates, invitations should go out even sooner.

We also recommend a respond by deadline for your guests of 1.5-2 months prior to your big day. This allows time to reach out to those guests who haven’t responded and get a timely head count for all your vendors.

  • While we can add matching ‘thank you’ cards/notes to your day-of order, we recommend ordering your ‘thank you’ cards with your wedding invitation suite. This way, you will have them on-hand to send if you receive a gift before the wedding.

While you have up to 3 months after your wedding to send ‘thank you’ notes for gifts received on your wedding day, it is recommended to send a ‘thank you’ note within 2 weeks of receiving a gift prior to. This is why we advise ordering the cards early and have them on-hand, ready to go! Also keep in mind that ‘thank you’ cards are also needed for any gifts received at engagement parties, bridal showers, etc.

  • Because every project is different and we like to provide our clients with personalized customizations, we offer individualized quotes (rather than set prices) so that we are able to tailor and customize each project to the desires and requirements of our couples. Quotes are dependent on quantity, print method, paper type and added embellishments, as well as whether choosing custom or a curated suite from our semi-custom collection.

For a semi-custom design, the average Number B Design Co couple invests around $4,000 for invitations and between $1,500-$2,000 for day-of paper goods. This allows couples to invest in specialty print methods like letterpress or foil and incorporate high-end luxury details like handmade paper, silk ribbon, envelope liners, vellum wraps, wax seals and more.

For a custom design, we recommend dedicating $5,000-$8,000+ for invitation sets. Price will additionally be dependent on the complexity of the design.

Our couples value intentional design and artful details that are authentic to their love story. They understand that heirloom pieces require creative skill, time and investment.

  • We are able to accommodate any additions and changes to your order up until print and production. Once design approval has been given and permission to move into the printing and production phase, no further changes can be made. This includes changing quantities, paper and colors, text or adding items like a details card. Please note that making changes or adding items could change the design/printing/production timeline as well as cost investment.

  • Yes, of course! We love working with our couples on every aspect of their stationery and providing any help we can to make the process as enjoyable and seamless as possible! When working on your wording/personalization form, you can provide the pertinent information and leave a note that you would like assistance with the wording. It is helpful to note if you prefer a more traditional/formal or modern style.

  • Yes! Assembly and mailing services are included within the design fee of our custom projects, and are available as an add-on with our semi-custom suites. We love taking on all aspects of wedding stationery services for our couples and pride ourselves in offering full-service stationery. Let us take care of gluing envelope liners, tying silk ribbons, pouring wax seals, stuffing envelopes, curating and applying postage and more so you don’t have to!

We strive to make the wedding stationery process as simple and stress free as possible for our couples. If you still have questions after reviewing our Stationery Terms & Conditions (linked above) and our FAQs, please reach out with any additional questions you may have. We are happy to help and look forward to hearing from you!
